I used to do a whole lot of digital scrapbooking.. and I have this wonderful little book with some AMAZING quotes.. and this one has been one of my favorites FOREVER.. my heart smiled after this session. this family is very blessed, they have 2 older boys that are going to be WONDERFUL big Brothers to the lovely Fiona.

“A younger sister is someone to use as a guinea-pig in trying sledges and experimental go-carts. Someone to send on messages to Mom. But someone who needs you – who comes to you with bumped heads, grazed knees, tales of persecution. Someone who trusts you to defend her. Someone who thinks you know the answers to almost everything.”

I think that is so honest and real.. I just LOVE it.. it is real life. honest.

A big thank you to the Nelson family for opening their home to me, and inviting me to photograph their wonderful new daughter!

Giving is Awesome ~Red_Deer_Photographer

Well this young man and his family were the winners of my 2008 Giving is Awesome contest. This handsome and couragoues young man is battling Leukemia.  We have been trying to his session since the spring, but it just always seemed that whenever we would book a session, he would take a turn for the worse.  We finally managed to catch up just after Halloween! Justin was feeling great and  he even went out and trick or treated! I Dropped everything I was doing and headed out for a fun filled, but chilly afternoon! I let Justin totally choose the locations, he knows his farm way better than I do, so WHY not? Plus it helped him be more relaxed and excited for his photos!

We got some really urban style shots, some classic ones, and of course some FUN ones too!

For those of you who dont know anything about Giving is Awesome.

Here is what happened last year over 530 photographers from all over the world donated over $550,000 worth of custom portraiture to deserving families. Giving Is Awesome was founded in 2008,  so for one lone idea, to spread across the world like it did.. I am simply thrilled to be a member again this year!

Here is the shpeil? LOL is that even a word?

You know someone.

You know someone who’s experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances.

You know someone who can’t afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season.

You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography – $2000 worth, to be exact. The winner will receive a complimentary photo session, the high resolution digital negatives for every image in their gallery, PLUS a complete set of 4×6 prints to match those files.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a $250 print credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be?

The rules:

* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)

* The nominee must reside in Central Alberta. Tell me who you know, what they’re experiencing, and why they deserve my art. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.

* You must e-mail me the full story : info@deannahallphotography.com

*Deadline for entries is December 24th, 2009

The winner will be announced on New Years day–  so get nominating!  I can’t wait to read all of your entries!

Open your heart to someone this holiday season — and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

something NEW and VERY fun in the works

I can’t really tell you a whole lot at the moment, but I can say I’m SUPER excited!!

I spent the morning today in Red Deer having a wonderful meeting with some amazing women, in their AMAZING store!

The girls at THE Bra Lounge contacted me several months ago about doing some joint promotion work.  Things have been hectic for both of us for the past few months, that we just haven’t been able to chat!  They just moved into their new location, which is kitty corner to Original Joe’s. (if you haven’t been there..you need to go.. its a STUNNING store! ) They initially started their business helping women who had a rough time finding the proper fitting bra’s and underwear. Now with the new location, they are starting to open some new doors, and offer some more amazing lingerie.  Those doors that will lead to some fun and exciting work that I am totally honored to be involved with!

I popped into the store today to pick up my current issue of Real Women . Which is a great local magazine all about empowering women! This months issue is all about living rich. And inside this month’s issue you will find an article on boudoir photography. Kim, the owner of Real Women, contacted me in September about their Nov/Dec issue. She was wanting to write an article on boudoir photography and came across my Simply Hush site.  Totally COOL ! Well our work is out, and in print and I am tickled pink to be published in such an amazing magazine. The entire drive behind Real Women is to EMPOWER women… which falls totally inline with how I feel with my boudoir photography.

2010 will be the year I help Central Alberta woman get their groove back. Its easy to loose. I have been there, done that.. as a mom of 3 under 5 I know how hard it is to take off that MOM hat we all wear so often, its so EASY to loose that feeling of sexy.. well Simply Hush and the Bra Lounge are here to help! tee hee… can you tell I am excited? I don’t typically talk to much about my boudoir photography on this blog. I really try to keep them as separate entities, and I feel that works best for my clients.. ALL of my clients.

I am making an exception today. I am totally pumped about our upcoming endeavors with the Bra Lounge, that I just have to share it with everyone!

The women you see below are a few of my Hush clients. They are not models, they are not crazy skinny and super in shape.. They are normal women, leading normal lives. Many of them are mothers. Many of them would NOT fit into a size 2 jean. My Hush work is all about these women. Regular women, just like you and me.  Women who need to be reminded just how beautiful they truly are. Women who need to spend a day getting pampered. Women who need to see themselves like their husbands see them. Women who DESERVE it. (pardon the watermark craziness, a few of these images are from last year before I got my new logo!)

OK back to the bra lounge for a moment…

As I was sitting in the lounge today, I was in total amazement of the wonderful lingerie that they have! Plus I got a sneek peek into what WILL be coming over the next several months! totally SWEET corsets! yummy yummy!

Stay tuned over the next week… on both of my blogs for some more information on an upcoming casting call for pregnant (approx 32-34 weeks) women willing to pose in some TOTALLY FREAKING WONDERFUL maternity lingerie!  We are just working out the final details, but we are hoping to do the session sometime in December! So if you fit our criteria.. and will be around 32-34 weeks of pregnancy in December, AND you are interested in a slightly SEXIER style of maternity portraits just pop me an email and I will be sure to forward you all the details when they are completed!  And Again, I will post more about this in a few weeks!

PHEW LONG blog post today!

Happy weekend!

sweet and simple. ~Red_Deer_Baby_Photographer

Red_Deer_newborn_PhotographerOn saturday I was blessed with a quick road trip up to Edmonton for a newborn session. We had planned it a bit earlier that week, but my entire household came down with the sickies,  so in the best interest of all parties, we decided to postone it for several days.  This family is simply amazing, they are so very caring and kind.. you can just feel it when you walk in the door.

Sisters are a wonderful thing. I love them.Red_Deer_newborn_PhotographerRed_Deer_newborn_Photographer
